I'm an hour into this film when I was (5minutes ago) inspired to do a search for - Is Drive my Car boring (and found a review that said exactly that). Don't get me wrong. I love slow cinema, downtime, and I'm fine with slow pace. I love Uncle Boonmee, Hirokazu Koreeda films, social realist film, and long films of all kinds. I'm just not getting this one. Tokyo story is like an action film in comparison. Why is it so dry and empty? I haven't felt compelled or in any way fascinated at all with the plot or characters. The acting, pacing, and editing are fine, but they have to be driven with something that makes you want to keep watching. I'll finish it, but Christ it's hard work.
