Even my initial gut reaction to seeing promos for Barbie was “well, this is going to be stupid”—-
and Whewwwww, I was VERY wrong.
I expected superficial slapstick humor and celebrating stereotypes…
What makes this film so poignant and profound is how gracefully it addresses just that thought— your already ingrained feeling of this doll and explores why.
It was existential, philosophical, introspective, deep, and empowering.
I- did- not- anticipate being absolutely blown away by not only the visual artistry, but the depth and complexity of the conversation it encourages.
I believe this film is one of the most culturally relevant pieces of art from our time. It’s genius.
It was nothing I expected and everything I needed to see in a film.
Well done Margo Robbie & the entire team!
I can’t wait to see it again.
