Don't fall for any "Great Reviews" of this trainwreck. This is one of those well-hyped films with the same Hollywood "fashion designer dudette" as screenwriter AND director AND producer trying to make a "macho" movie. That is most often a prescription for disaster except in rare exceptions. He had no one to tell him how far off from reality the script and character development was. The script could have been good but the devil was not in the details and it quickly becomes absurd. The premise is flawed at the outset. We are supposed to feel sympathetic for a grandmother who thinks she has a right to go take her grandchild from its mother simply because she doesn't like the behavior of the boys 2nd father or his family. By the second half everything turns into a giant gruesome cluster f#*k, and we are supposed to feel good about the "raw gritty reality of it" I suppose. But instead we just think: This psycho is willing to sacrifice her husband to get her way, and the husband is willing to go along with it! I wanted to ask for my money back and go take a shower at the end. Very weak script that Costner and Lane could not salvage.
