This could have been an amazing movie. It had all the parts except a good director I suspect. It does a great job of showing you who the characters are, but they are lost in the overarching theme of beautiful scenery and costumes. The visuals are beautiful but it doesn’t capture any depth. There is no true desperation or excitement. I didn’t expect a thrill ride, I did expect a reason to root for Effie and Everett besides the fact he isn’t Ruskin. We see nothing of the character that could have breathed life into the story. Millais was there, waiting, but instead we got more shots of Ruskin being mean and his family and house being dull and stifling. We knew that already. I held on expecting Millais to be in her fantasies, to give her some motivation but it fell flat. At the end I couldn’t believe they just left it there. It felt like an orgasm incomplete because you fell asleep instead. Absolutely absurd in its own way
