It’s rare these days that I like anything on TV
I would describe myself as well read and difficult to please when it comes to film and TV I’m regularly frustrated with the hype that is created over churned out rubbish on Netflix which is more often enough a Christmas tree of shi*e with the occasional half decent decoration that is watchable (sorry Netflix)
Finally a production worthy of its original description as a “picture” A piece of Art is supposed to allow us to feel many emotions and one day takes you on a journey of beautiful nostalgia viewing a artistic creation of set script and music that allow you to become truly invested in the frustrations of the characters friendship . There were times when I got annoyed and just wanted to watch something else as The “ will they won’t they” scenario really irritated me but I kept on . Then I understood that actually that’s how it feels isn’t it! Love, friendships encounters . They are never without tension and annoyance and pain
I believe this production so clever I don’t think there is a single emotion I didn’t feel . The Times describes it as empty ? I am surprised at that completely. Yes there are a few mishaps here and there with the set design but not enough that you can’t re-immerse yourself in the periods of the story. some of the scenes with other actors are slightly ropey but very few. The two main actors were just incredible.i found Emma as annoying as I would find any left wing writer reading Brecht and being generally feminist (maybe that’s why the times hated it ) But that is the whole point these two were always so unlikely a match but that in itself is why it’s so beautiful.Social norms dictates their direction but it doesn’t matter in the end, because who we fall in love with is never our choice . I think this is such a beautiful piece of art and it moved me. It really was a “picture” I don’t want to go into the story as it’s not for me to comment on what is to be your interpretation of it.
The definition of art is something that can communicate information, shape our everyday lives, make a social statement and be enjoyed for aesthetic beauty. One day certainly does this it’s clever and fun and artistic I was moved by the story and the beauty of the script. I am thankful I kept on watching this beautiful picture and will certainly remember the journey it took me on. Beautiful
