Great show. Realistic fires and paramedic situations/scenes. Believable, interesting relationships with co-workers, bosses, friends, lovers, etc. Good writing and really good plot lines.

I keep watching due to great acting and an addictive plot. But (and I am not averse to or bothered by violence on TV) this show is gratuitously violent. The beatings, shootings and stabbings go on and on. We get the point. Prisons are filled with desperate criminals and evil men and women. I just don't see the point in showing stabbings and stomps to the face that last for so long you can't even look away; because when you look back it's still going on. It's not clever or entertaining; simply repetitive and nauseating.

Basically a super fun drama. A highly dysfunctional family...many boys with different fathers and all are criminals. They get themselves in and out of trouble, help each other when they can and (were) devoted to their Mom. Now, their nephew is living and hanging out with them and he is decidedly more violent and vicious than the other boys.
