If I could rate this lower, trust me I would. I cannot really understand why this movie was even made to begin with. It opens with yes - a dingy gas station in the middle of Texas, complete with pumps that actually no longer exist. Oddly enough, the movie recognizes the fact that times have changed since the original - the protagonists drive a Tesla - but not enough so that they don't just have them at a fully modern gas station.
The early idiosyncrasies don't stop there - the writers never develop the characters at all - but they do manage to bake in some wildly unnecessary and mostly off-brand political digs. Perhaps they felt they would connect with a younger generation this way? Either way, within 15 minutes all we really know is that we could not care less about the movie, the characters in it or anything else that happens.
As this mercifully short movie progresses, all we really get are plot holes, frustrating inconsistencies and a seemingly desperate need to continue to do homages to other horror movies. Again - odd choice, since this movie certainly doesn't qualify as a horror.
On that note it was gory, I'll give it that. This movie that starts out with some ham handed attempts at commentary on guns and gun violence later on fully chooses violence. Lots and lots of violence.
All in: a useless, schlocky, sometimes preachy and certainly hard to watch for all the wrong reasons movie. I would say don't waste your time but I enjoyed giving this film a full blown MST3K treatment with my wife.
