Fuck. This. Movie. I saw this after having carefully watched and dissect this movie in its entirety. Within the first 15 minutes I understood the point of the movie. It’s not meant to be viewed “on the nose”, as delivered, but more from the lens of a satirical point of view. The problem is, the delivery. While I understood what the film maker “meant”, the way he went about it was si dishearteningly obtuse and devoid of a true cultural sensibility or self awareness, that by the time the “point” of it all is finally made in the final act, it’s of no use or rather, you don’t give a fuck. It comes too damn late. The film waste so much time on being a “witty, deep-ish provocative, and thought provoking” caricature of its self, any real ones still watching wouldn’t give a fuck because it played in our goddamn faces for too fuckn long. Anyone else not in the “know” IYKYK, would think this was most cerebrally intelligent satiric comedy of the year. Mans tried to play one of those games uber “enlightened” people play on common folk when they think they don’t understand. Unfortunately, it was OVERSTOOD. Then to end it with the main character ending up with the love interest AFTER the taxi scene ONLY to see what kind of organization she was in… REALLY? Nuff said. See this bullshit once then toss it.

For what purpose? I found myself asking this question at multiple points in the movie. The why of it all.. It didn’t come until near the end. This served as a coming of age story for the next Caesar but also something to set the ground work for the universe to come. It’s very slow paced and not as action packed but as the viewer, the universe has already been established from the previous trilogy. It was “ok” but that was the purpose of the movie to be ok in order to lay the narrative framework of what is to come next. It couldn’t pull out its bag of tricks just yet. It had to establish the world for the viewer. It was fine enough to warrant a sequel. If you got into it expecting the last trilogy, you’ll be disappointed. If you go into with the mainframe that a new world, story, narrative and characters must be “built” then you may be satisfied.
