In Texas, Selena is sacred, specifically in the Chicano community Having said that, I can understand how the Quintanilla family greenlit this series. It is rated PG, but it feels more like a G rated series. And in my humble opinion, the series is meant to be more of a family oriented show that will introduce Selena to the next generation of fans, specifically little girls. I have no problem with anything I have mentioned thus far.
However, as per the acting and screenplay. I couldn't help but feel I was watching a low budget series with B rated actors. The acting is bland, none of the characters are developed so that the audience can be intrigued by them. There are various moments when Christian Serratos captures the loveable personality of Selena. No question about that. The portrayal of Abraham Quintanilla is that of a to stoic man on a one way track to catapult Selena y los Dinos to stardom. Marcella Quintanilla, the mother is played very docile and almost irrelevant.
