In my humble opinion, there is no ambition in the plot. The characters are interesting but the movie left me unfulfilled.

I am no movie critic, however, I admit that I envy the articulation that critics so eloquently illustrate with words. Their talents are impeccable and poetically expose the story of a movie. I enjoyed the movie, the nostalgia, the simplicity that once was. Expressing one's feelings and desires were limited pre-internet. A letter was personal, a conversation with each other's thoughts was the epitome of a gesture that is a love letter. The acting was a C at best. The screenplay was below average and the ending was truly improbable. The characters would have been well into their 80s, and not as functional as portrayed. Tell a a story that truly is at heart and connects with the audience.

This movie is so dreadful, at first, I thought that the male lead character was a Sean Penn knock off. Sadly, I was misled. It was the real deal Sean Penn. This movie never had a chance, the writing is putrid, the acting is pitiful. If you're able to finish watching it, give yourself a 5-Star rating.

In Texas, Selena is sacred, specifically in the Chicano community Having said that, I can understand how the Quintanilla family greenlit this series. It is rated PG, but it feels more like a G rated series. And in my humble opinion, the series is meant to be more of a family oriented show that will introduce Selena to the next generation of fans, specifically little girls. I have no problem with anything I have mentioned thus far. However, as per the acting and screenplay. I couldn't help but feel I was watching a low budget series with B rated actors. The acting is bland, none of the characters are developed so that the audience can be intrigued by them. There are various moments when Christian Serratos captures the loveable personality of Selena. No question about that. The portrayal of Abraham Quintanilla is that of a to stoic man on a one way track to catapult Selena y los Dinos to stardom. Marcella Quintanilla, the mother is played very docile and almost irrelevant.
