I had read the book and was so looking forward to the movie. What a huge disappointment. I would have given it 0 stars but had to provide 1 to write this review. I had teared up where the book described the murders of the innocent indigenous people -- but was absolutely unable to feel any emotion when watching multiple murders on the screen. Like a lot of reviewers here, I was so bored after the first hour that I would have walked out had my husband not indicated he wanted to stay (he ended up wishing we had left early). And I totally agree with other viewers that the focus on white men was so prominent as to completely ignore the true story -- the Osage Indians. My take? Scorsese wanted to make a movie with his favorite actors (DeNiro and De Caprio) and although he chose an excellent subject, his need to promote his "stars" overrode his ability to stay with the actual plot. Not only was the movie crammed full of unimportant dialogue and scenes, but the ending was a real joke! I told my husband "This is the movie that never ends." They say this is a contender for an Academy Award -- I say it's a flop that should have been left on the cutting room floor. Be sure and read down through the reviews enough to get past the 5-star ones (which have apparently been deliberately put at the top); there are LOTS of folks who share my views with excellent comments about why this 3.5-hour movie was anything but a "Masterpiece."
