Reading through the other reviews, it seems like quite a few people are having difficulty connecting with some of the characters. While I will admit that is understandable, I do want to say that the characters seem very real. OJ and Emerald especially are realistically written, and OJ is characterized in a way I haven’t seen before. His personality is unique and intriguing; it drew me in pretty quickly. The movie has a pretty interesting take on both the aliens and humanity itself. At times I felt vulnerable to the danger in this movie, especially in the scenes revolving around Jupe’s past. I’ll try not to spoil too much past that, just know that this movie is definitely worth a watch in my opinion! Jordan Peele is always fantastic at what he does.

Although the show starts out a little wobbly, once it gets to the third episode things kick off. The relationships between characters feel relaxed and the humor is amazing and light- it doesn’t have to be sophisticated to be funny!! The soundtrack is amazing, the cinematography/cuts between frames are well done, the costumes are unique, the actors were brilliant, and on the technical side of things I thought everything was amazing. The representation was so beautiful and was such a breath of fresh air in contrast to the queerbaiting we usually see. I found myself delighted by Buttons and Lucius’ personalities and laughing at every little joke in the show, enamored by the intimacy and soft nature of the romance, and I was equally infuriated and heartwrenched by the tragic moments. The ending had me in tears (I won’t spoil too much) and I’m eagerly awaiting a second season!!
