If could I'd actually rate it more like a 3.5 but can't so I'll go to 4 because would not be honest to myself if I rate it a 3 thus far. Maybe if rate it a 5 when I try the full game.
I played the open beta for over 20 hours. These were my pros and cons of my open beta play experience BEFORE I read into the games written and video reviews:
PROS:
- The story line was not that bad.
- Some pirate lines were fun and funny.
- Ship costumization offered plenty (like that you can have a pet near by).
- The in-game pirate chants when you're navigating the seas made the game feel more themed interactive (even if this has already been done in like AC black flag).
- A lot of the sea graphics were good and like the music change when in a battle or under threat.
CONS:
- When you board an enemy ship or your walking on land you can't actually sword/gun fight the enemy (add a few and ill change my rating).
- Ship fighting gets a bit repetitive after a dozen fights (wish ship crews had skills that can be earned and modified for their tasks in the ship and that you can actually walk and interact with your crew on the deck. Maybe event buy more crew if you loose your ship and your crew grows more the longer the crew Id alive).
- Got lost at the initial contracts because it was hard to find the clans and or locations ( Lost hours trying to figure this out).
- I was kicked like over a dozen times hope this doesn't happen in the release.
- Game has automatic rockets, torpedos, flame throwers. I know we're trying to sell to many audiences but this is a bit much.
- Although the graphics seem nice, darker in game tone colors would have added that darker feel of the pirate 17 century feel specifically at sail and it would have hidden the cartoonic animated feel a bit.
- You can shoot from all four sides of the ship 🤔, huuuu? ( This takes away from the suspense of turning your ship to get the proper shots or to protect your ship).
- I'm not a 17 century war expert but why can I go 1 v 3 beat them all and med kit my self back to 💯? I wish battles where more like 1 v 1 or event 2 v 1 but that the fighting took more than 3 salvos.
