Episode IV is not only the best SW movie, but should have been the ONLY SW movie. Now I realize many people hold V in higher regard, and it may be a better movie technically. I’ll give you that. BUT IV is nearly perfect in that it requires no previous background nor does it require a sequel. The good guys win, the day is saved. Wrapped up tight, in a neat package. If you only watch IV by itself you can move on with life. Now, I know you’re wondering what this has to do with IX and the answer is IX should never have existed. It’s bad because there’s no reason to have it in the first place except to make money and ruin childhoods. We didn’t need I-III (caused more plot holes than they filled) and honestly the second half of VI was a bit cartoonish... but VII-IX are unashamedly abominations to the lore. I’m not sure anyone involved with this latest movie knows or cares about any other part of the extended series. All conventions are thrown out, all canon is essentially ignored, the universe is redesigned to be less interesting and the plot is essentially garbage taken out of the waste bin... and yet you’ve got to sit through 2 other bafflingly pointless movies to get to this one. It doesn’t stand alone, nor does it make any sense in context. Worst of both worlds. It fails to resolve most of the plot points raised in the beginning of this trilogy and just insets random references to Star Wars stuff that the creators think the fans will enjoy seeing out of pure nostalgia. That’s not enough. That’s not how you end a saga. This movie was irrelevant years before it was filmed. Sorry fanboys but The Clone Wars cartoon has story arcs 25 times more compelling than the past 3 movies combined and it was designed for children.
