this movie had an overall nice message and had really great comments on female sexuality and the fluidity that accompanies it. i also thought the acting was really accurate and beautiful. however, i found fault in a lot of the technical things. a lot of the shots were long and uncomfortable; they would stay on the same shot for too long, or there were sudden extreme close ups that were seemingly unnecessary. one example was in the beginning, when cyd and miranda have their first meal together. that was all one continuous shot from afar, which was uncomfortable to watch (in my opinion that was the worst scene in the film). i also felt that a lot of the scripting was heavily flawed; the lines felt unnatural and as if they were just trying to fill in time, they didn’t feel like genuine things that someone would say. a lot of the scenes and scene changes were strange. every time someone talked it was to another person, and every scene was a conversation, there was almost no variety. also, a lot of the scene changes were sudden and uncomfortable. i also noticed that the sound design involved was not fitting; the soundtrack didn’t feel like it matched the general aura of the film, there wasn’t much accompanying music throughout the film, and the sound effects were noticeably over-dubbed, they were too loud and/or they just didn’t quite fit the thing that was making sound. another thing that i found quite frustrating was the characters. there was seemingly no character development, nor was there much of a deep dive into the main characters. cyd felt like a side character in her own film, purely because we never got to see any real personality or a proper character arc; her personality and her story of self discovery seemed to only lie within the stories of the other characters. as a female who likes females myself, i also felt that the general message in regards to lgbtq+ issues didn’t quite hit the mark (which is ok, it didn’t need to, but that’s what differentiates this movie, to me, as either a mediocre film or an excellent film). they chose the most lesbian-looking-lesbian to play cyd’s lesbian awakening, making it feel stereotypical and predictable. i also felt that they could’ve delved deeper into the lgbtq+ experience, seeing as the movie was marketed as a lgbtq+ film, but then again, that may be at the fault of the media rather than the filmmaker’s intentions. all that being said, i did find many moments to congratulate throughout the film. as it progressed, some of these issues dissipated; the shots and scenes were sometimes more natural and the dialogue was more sophisticated and genuine. i also somewhat really appreciated the fact that it wasn’t another “oh look this person is gay ahhhh” story, but rather that cyd just liked a girl and they were together and that was it, there was no elaborate coming out, no drama surrounding it, she was just with a woman and that was it. i’ve wanted this to happen for so long, because every single lgbtq+ romance film is always centred around coming out and acceptance, so it was refreshing to see something not like that. as i mentioned before, i felt that they could’ve presented a lesbian relationship in a different, more unique way, but overall i felt that the representation was effective and refreshing. overall it was an okay film, i wouldn’t say it was amazing. i think the contents and the acting was great, but the overall execution was flawed. that being said, it wasn’t a bad movie, but it definitely could’ve been a lot better. actually i am coming back to this and...yes. it is a bad film. it is just bad.

This clip is just a pure masterpiece. I had terminal cancer in my left eyesocket, and just hearing the opening of this song, with Shrek's smooth voice saying "Hello everybody" cured it in seconds. I cannot stress enough the beauty and power that this song holds. It is enough to bring a grown ogre to tears, and it makes me very ecited in my no-no square. They should honestly make this it's own feature length film. I love it.
