Beyond White Space showed some promise in the first few minutes. I felt like I was watching something close to Cowboy Bebop in setting and aesthetic. That all went away five minutes in. The movie felt like the lovechild of Serenity and Moby Dick with no sense of humor and terrible dialogue. The characters were one dimensional, with lots of tired sci-fi tropes drifting around. While I thought there might be some potential in the concept, the whole plot just sort of imploded in Greek Tragedy style without any exposition.
As others have said, it's a pretty good-looking film. The CGI was well done (especially the space whale) and the sets looked good. Some well chosen music helped a bit too. Even so: Definitely wouldn't pay to see this one.
