A movie that had potential but was squandered by many things. What it should have been was a Salem-era family slowly become distrustful of each other and succumb to hysteria due to religious superstition. It did have that, sure, but there are many unquestionably supernatural elements which ruin the sort of grounded commentary on superstition that it had going for it.
There's also these people that have this unabashed smugness of them to claim that only smart people can appreciate something like this. Stop kidding yourself. Just because you liked something that many people didn't doesn't mean other people "just aren't smart enough to get it".
