A brave and atmospheric film, where the ruined desolate landscape reflects race relations in Australia. Brilliantly and artistically photographed in stark black and white, the acting of the four leads was superb. Don’t expect any answers, but do expect an eloquent, heartfelt exposition of the problem. Only the strength of Indigenous family relationships holds their world together.

Intelligent and intriguing, The Lesson is a deeply satisfying riff on the idea that “great writers steal”. I was enthralled from beginning to end. Beautifully filmed and acted, watch this one to be educated in the delights of cinema!
