Unnecessarily grim, horrible ending, and tries to justify the gratuitous violence shown. When you add in the racism element thrown in, it just leaves a very bad taste. I wish this movie hadn’t been made and I wish I hadn’t wasted time watching it. Actors were great though.

This movie was great. It had a novel storyline with a fresh take on classic parent-child relationship drama, the visual effects were absolutely stunning, and representation matters. While people can disagree on it's artistic value, most of the one star reviews that I saw took issue with its representation of a gay character. If that bothers you, then you don't have to watch it. Let it be meaningful for those who don't mind.
