This book is one of my all-time favorites; it's a must-read.
I'm a young Jewish-American girl, and I had to read this for school; I am in the 7th grade. This book follows the story of Liesel Meminger, a girl surrendered to foster care by her mother.
This book takes place during WWII, but it isn't your typical historical fiction. Liesel is not Jewish, she is Aryan. She lives on a street full of Nazis, goes to a school full of Nazis, and attends Hitler Youth meetings often.
The Book Thief is full of characters you will get deeply emotionally invested in and has turns I never would have guessed.
I will say that the beginning is a bit confusing, and I had to re-read some lines, but that's nothing in the grand scheme of this wonderful book!
Please, read this book. Quite frankly, it will make you think; it had a massive emotional impact on me.
In conclusion, this is a must-read for children and adults alike. If you like tearjerkers and historical fiction, this is the book for you.
Have a wonderful day, Riley
