Having recently read through the Saint Seiya manga I was curious about this adaptation since I'd seen how negative the reception for it was. Speaking as a new fan of the series, I have to say I rather liked it. It's definitely not without problems, such as unimpressive direction and fight scenes in season 1, some rather childish and basic writing scattered throughout, and a few questionable changes to the story. Personally, I'm not a fan of the name changes to the Bronze Saints; they'll always be Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun, and Ikki to me. Despite those issues though, its strengths outweigh its flaws for me. A lot of the initial backlash to this adaptation seems to have been mostly aimed at the fact that Shun was changed to a woman. To me, the things this changes about Shun's character are either minor enough to not matter, or not nearly as "damaged" by the change as a lot of irrationally upset fans want to believe. I don't write a lot of reviews for things like this but I felt this series had gotten an undeserved amount of flak and wanted to try and balance things out a bit with a positive review. I'm definitely hoping Netflix and Toei didn't let the angry fanboys dissuade them from continuing with the rest of the story, because I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the Gold Saints in action.
