One of my favorite books of all time and an instant classic. Highlights include the precision and cleverness of Towles’ language, the richness of his characters and the depth of their relationships, and the low simmer of a plot intertwined with generous servings of meaningful digression, subtle foreshadowing and original aphorisms. Between my love of language and history, this book was a pleasure to read from start to finish.
