I had read the book and found it mostly unbelievable nonsense but was looking forward to the film for the scenery . Missed the film at the local cinema so recently purchased the DVD .
What a waste of my time and money , everyone associated with this film should be ashamed of themselves , a lesson in how not to make a film .Very easy to pick holes in this film because there are so many . Many Youtubers do a more competent job of showing off the coast path .
Lots of dark scenes of the interior of a tent ,mumbled dialogue ,the accents were all over the place .
The start of the walk from Minehead was ok but the mileage counter was wrong as was the order you arrived at the different locations , you have Porlock Weir 12 miles which is correct then again at 19 miles then Ilfracombe at 29 miles and the Valley of Rocks 36 Miles these two place should be transposed . You have the couple walking east on a pebble ridge instead of going west. At the 280 mile mark we have another scene of
Ilfracombe it should be the south Cornwall coastline around Praa Sands not a town in North Devon. The church scene is meant to be Culbone church , it isn't . There are too many faults to list here .
It looks like the editors of this film assembled it in any old order and didn't care about accuracy .
I know what I am talking about as I live a minutes walk from the coast path in North Devon and have walked it for most of my life . Even before it became the South West Coast Path .
Very disappointed at the lack of scenery in the film and the very limited journey compared with the book .They missed views of lovely Lynmouth , Broadsands , Saunton Sands ,Bude etc .
This is an arduous walk and I can't see how anyone could undertake this being ill and with such a low calorie diet ,noodles etc .. My view is that the real couple walked sections of the path over a number of years and stayed in a house somewhere rather than the time frame the book and film suggests .
I will leave one final comment on the Salt Path it's BORING .
