I did find this film beautiful and believable, the scenery was ravishing, and am now keen to read the book. My one gripe was that at least for the early part of the film I couldn't pick up the dialogue. Maybe I'm a bit deaf - but I read another review or two who said the same thing. Captions needed?

I found this book fascinating, though it focuses on British speech, so may not interest other nationalities (though that didn't stop my interest). The author has a nice sense of humour as well as being a professor of sociolinguistics. Anyone with a love of language and its sheer variety and ever-changing nature would probably enjoy this.

Loved this book, having studied Old English briefly at university. But it is very readable for anyone who is interested in the origins of English and it gives great insights into the lives of the Anglo Saxons and there's a nicely humorous touch!
