It is about a girl called Stella Grant and a boy named Will Newman, who are two teenagers that have spent the majority of their lives in hospital due to a disease called Cystic Fibrosis. The two couldn't be any more different but what brings them together is the disease they share. Stella is trying everything in her power to stay well enough while Will is a little reckless with his treatments, waiting for the day he turns 18 so he can leave the hospital and experience the world with the time he has left. Eventually, the two slowly fall in love but there’s a catch, they can’t be within 6 feet of each other. “Five Feet Apart,”is about the defiance of their disease, as they take back the small control they can over the distance of their relationship, by making it 5 feet, instead of 6. They don’t want to be dictated by the disease and they want to be in control of their lives but still have to find a way to love each other without touching each other. It is quite hard for them to love in this condition, as they can't even touch the person they love.
