The same story is told from 3 perspectives. Could have been really interesting, but instead they don’t provide any more information in each retelling so it just becomes repetitive and boring. No conclusion is given. Waste of time and don’t bother.

Very slow and full of implausible events such as ships that crash into earth but miss 70% of ocean and sparsely populated areas to hit a building in the centre if a city dead on without disintegrating on impact.

Well acted and directed. Visuals are awesome. Where it falls down is when it shifts from a sci-fi film to a horror one and it becomes increasingly implausible from magic gravity keeping everyone on the floor to some sunburnt human melanoma running havoc.

It was a premise worthy of a Black Mirror episode and had some Cronenberg body horror vibes too. However the handling of the material was done in poor taste, exploitative and with very gratuitous blood soaked violence that made the thing more and more unbelievable as it goes off the rails in the third act.

Wow! What a car crash. Barely a story or narrative to speak of. Music is largely people “singing” dialogue poorly and repetitively over bland music. Good acting and commitment from the actors but it’s so long, boring, tedious, repetitive pretentious and pointless.

Smart, well acted film with a very original premise.

Boring and slow paced. The great central performance doesn’t offset that basically she was a talented singer who outside the studio was not a rather bland junkie, with no explanation or insight into what killed her.

A few misses in this attempt at a Wonka origin story. Firstly the story /script was just quite silly and it missed the opportunity to give Wonka some better dialogue and scenes that revealed the genesis of his bitter-sweet nature. It’s all rather syrupy and flat. Secondly, the Hugh Grant character was under-used. Thirdly the casting; too many characters, and Wonka himself needed more than the anaemic man/child that is in fashion at the moment. His acting is reasonable but there is no connection to Gene Wilder’s iconic look or mannerisms or speech patterns. Lastly the music is quite awful and relies too much on the original song to save it.

Like an onion peeling off its layers this film starts off one way and then turns, and twists. Riveting.
