Fallout 76 has improved significantly over time. Too buggy and too limited at launch, over the last year there have been new features, bug squashes, expansions in the story, and, for me, a lot of fun.
But it isn't for everyone. The main storyline isn't as compelling as, say, New Vegas and the lack (until Wastelanders lands) of NPCs can make it feel lifeless. But I like the solitary, empty nature of the game, I enjoy grinding to build new weapons, armor, and sofas (seriously: building my base has been half the fun) while diving into and out of the various stories.
There are still bugs and places where you can get "stuck" on the map, there are still occasional glitches and oddities, but the pace is whatever you want it to be and the rewards are what you make them. My only complaint-- and it's a real one-- is that I was suckered into buying one of the early, pre-release packages that turned out to be essentially useless. This is not a mistake that I will make again with any of Bethesda's products.
