I found the film irritating; did not like the characters, even when, predictably, they were one by one redeemed. The father, especially, was as bad a dad through most of the film as the parents of the pageant contestants. The wacky scenes (taking grandpa's corpse, for example) were not funny, or charming, just ridiculous. Vastly overrated film.

Why this movie was successful is a mystery to me. It was utterly lacking in wit or charm.

If it had not been for Dakota Johnson, who is lovely and impervious to sun, I would have turned it off. Improbable in every way. Can not understand the positive reviews
