I’m honestly surprised Captain Hook didn’t change into Captain Hands because they thought Captain Hook would be insensitive to hand amputees.
There is just absolutely nothing to enjoy about this adaptation. Tiger Lilly was a pointless character who contributed nothing to the plot, or lack thereof (and for some reason she needed a horse). Peter’s actor was beyond bland, and exhibited no Peter Pan personality traits. Wendy is a reasonably screen worthy, talented young actress who was likely held back by poor writing and/or directing. Even Captain Hook’s performance was lackluster.
The movie did not include really any mandatory details, that should just be standard in a Peter Pan adaptation. Peter fights with a dagger, not a sword. Tinkerbell is sassy and jealous, not mute and emotionless. Tiger Lilly is a damsel in distress, not a non essential girl on a horse. I get they want to alter the adaptation so that it can stand on its own, but for heavens sakes, stick to some basics.
And they tried to add some production value to the movie by making the crocodile massive. The croc scene was excessive, and looked like a scene pulled out of Jurassic Park. I wish they would’ve allocated those funds to the flying scenes, some of which looked like a middle schooler made with a phone camera and a green sheet.
It was just rough. And exceptionally boring if I’m being brutally honest. The pacing was non existent. I appreciate the attempt at a modern Disney take at Peter Pan, but good lord, this is just terrible. Next time, find some real talent, stick to some basics, stop being so overly sensitive to certain political agendas, and add some color into the color palette, and maybe, just maybe you’d have a winner.
