As a movie, it was mildly enjoyable. Beautiful cinematography. I enjoyed the acting- Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby give great performances . Held my attention for most part. But this wasn’t just a movie! It was Napoleon. Such a shame the emotion in the story lines wasn’t set- it really lacked depth of character. And again, ok could just take it as a factual chronological account of his life from 1790’s. But then it should be historically more accurate. I’m not an historian, but even I know Napoleon never used infantry in trenches as a tactic. Friends who do know more listed inaccuracies that ruled them- infantry running out when Calvary was called- never happened- spikes in trenches- napoleon never used that tactic. They listed too many battle field ‘never happened’s’ for me to recall. I’m not sure the French would appreciate the selection of Napoleon. . Look, the movie is light, beautiful, entertaining, funny one liners…. But for me, it’s a missed opportunity for a great historical film. I really appreciate directors like Peter Jackson who meticulously research detail to give an authentic movie. This movie says it’s based on a true story, not a true story, so I’ll enjoy it as such. If you don’t know too much about Napoleon, his life ( including his life) or his battles, you’ll like it for what it is. If you do have knowledge of Napoleon, well, I’m sorry, maybe wait until it comes out on Apple tv to save your $ and disappointment 🙅🏻‍♀️
