This is a terrifically entertaining picture that will surprise those unfamiliar with so-called "Pre-Code" period. There are some gay jokes, open references to fornication and adultery, and no negative consequences for the principle characters -- all forbidden just a few years later when real teeth were added to the Product Code. Harlow is delightful; doubly intriguing considering that her real life husband committed suicide (at home) while the movie was shooting. Gable is casual, masculine, and likable. Mary Astor is a bit melodramatic but she pretty much always was. Still and all it's very entertaining.
