I’ve been playing SM’s Civilization since Civ IV. This iteration feels a lot more like a sullen return to the poor feeling of playing Civ V. There were so many great advancements by the end of Civ VI that I truly thought they could only improve the game for Civ VII, but I was wrong. To charge $70 for the basic version of this game that they hadn’t even polished or finished is absurd. What they released is more like a free version of a game that they seem to intend on improving through pay-to-play and DLC, although they have SO MUCH WORK to do on making the base version of the game actually feel fun. If you really aren’t feeling bored sitting there in the Modern Age continuing to pick dumb little buildings that smush all of your cities together, then good for you. Without a serious fix to this game, they’re losing me as a player for releasing this unpolished, unfinished version of a game I thought I’d love.
