I’ve been a big fan of the Far Cry Series, 3, 4, primal were all absolute pieces of art but 5 just isn’t it. What I like. Far cry 5 really tries hard to be a good game, they have a lot of other stuff like fishing and an arcade mode and while I haven’t played them I heard the DLC is amazing compared to other far cry titles human companions was an interesting step, the massive investment in making vehicles a big deal in this game was fascinating. What I dislike: Story I’ll admit the narrative is just uncomfortable, a cult with thousands of members and with a makeshift military and multiple planes kidnaps multiple FEDERAL cops and a sheriff and nobody comes to get them? In the US? That’s just pathetic writing in my opinion. The whole “bad guy” faction just feels fake, the seed family was well written but the followers just didn’t feel right. Gameplay: somehow the fairly repetitive far cry side gameplay tried changing this mechanic and it got worse, it’s integrated into the story, I don’t know what’s a main mission and what’s a story, I feel obligated to do everything to gain “points” to progress to the next level. The crafting process is longer and kind of hard to grasp. The HUD made it so horrible to navigate, I understand immersion is a big thing but the amount of times I had to go to the map menu so many damn times. It’s menus menus menus, for companions, for leveling up, for the map, for tracking DOZENS of “side missions” it doesn’t help that much of these menus have advertisements for far cry 6 or something else. Even the horrendous way how they integrated “pay to win” into a single player game with silver bars. I have 10 hours in, this last hour I put down my controller and felt “that wasn’t any fun besides the cutscenes”. I felt so forced playing the game, I’m just glad I got it for free to rent from my library. It’s just not worth the time or money, watch the cutscenes or some gameplay but I had not even an hour of fun for 10 hours of playtime. It’s hard for me to give up on a game halfway, but this one is an exception.
