Like Kate Atkinson’s other novels, this one has many characters and twists and turns in the plot. It can be a challenge to keep track sometimes, but stick with it; it is so worth it. Her characters are always well-developed, and it is so witty and laugh-out-loud funny at times, but it is also dark. It does indeed show the sinister side of authority, those in whom the helpless should have trust. To say that it is a murder mystery is somewhat limiting though because it really is a love story in many ways also. You can’t help but love the rescues. ❤️ I love the Jackson Brodie series!
