The shift to focus on speed golf has basically ruined casual golf, which is the reason I loved the older titles.
The Mii customization and story mode pales in comparison to the 3DS golf game released seven years ago.
The camera is lacking features that the GameCube title had in 2003. I can't even see how high a ball is going to go when I hit it... The golfer obstructs the cup when putting...
The three-button shot making has been replaced with a one-click option that uses randomized accuracy on every shot you make. I can see how that helps with speed golf, but in casual play, I like to have more finite control over what I'm shooting. I can't even use a range finder to place a mark on my shot meter to help with making power judgment. I just have to guess with every shot.
Simple features that solved problems 18 years ago have been forgotten, and it stifles the play in this most current game. This title doesn't even stack up to golf games in this franchise's own history. If there was a viable arcade-based golf game currently available, I'm sure it would be more enjoyable than this one.
Another case of Nintendo charging $60 for a game lacking core features (that previous titles in this line had) and getting away with it because "Mario good."
