Overall, PICARD is alright, but not what I was hoping for. My reasons for saying that: (1) Jean-Luc Picard has mellowed TOO MUCH in this episode. Yes, this happens often in reality as one gets older, but at this point it seems that he is barely the same character as he was in TNG. I know this was one of the goals of the show. But again, too much. (2) The characters in this show were way to screwed up. (I won't try to list all the ways.) Granted, Gene Roddenberry's vision of near perfection, which was heavily pushed in TOS and the early episodes of TNG may have been a bit much. But the characters' issues on PICARD was the other extreme. (3) The fan service in the 3rd season got to be over the top. I'm all for the occasional doses of nostalgia and sentimentality--in fact I would have been disappointed if there had been none. However, the reveal of the resurrected "Enterprise-D" (only the saucer section was part of the original ship), was ridiculous. Interesting to watch, but ultimately ridiculous. Even within the fanciful mythology of the Star Trek universe, that seemed terribly unrealistic.
