The intertwining of human lives and historical movement with the rich yet conflicting ingredients of religious faith, human natures, social tragedies, devotional academic endeavor, money and power struggles, primitive scientific experiments, soul ripping romance...make this The Professor and the Madman a phenomenal movie -- without popular mainstream profanities of sex, drugs, violence, crimes, special effects. And the amazing acting of Mel Gibson and Sean Penn and supporting actress Natalie Dormer make it a real, touching and enjoyable story. Of course it deserves five stars.
