As good as the first one for the first hour or so, then gets very messy and confused. It’s a hard story to condense, but even so, the last half of this film is a jumble. Thimotee Chalamet is good throughout. Some of the other characters see little development and quickly get pidgeon-holed. Was surprised to see Stillgar played for laughs. Christopher Walken is wasted. Great art design. Lots of effects.

Great book. Confused overwrought film - which is a real pity. The performances vary a lot. Jim Broadbent is fantastic. Tom Hanks struggles with some of his characters and is not believable. The makeup and the reuse of actors for very different roles is at some points very distracting and gimmicky. Could not watch it to the end.

Gripping. Understated. Beautifully shot and acted. Best thing I’ve seen in a while.

The original series was insightful, credible and created some wonderful characters. I had to stop watching this remake after 3 episodes. The writing can be a bit cheap, trashes some of those characters and lacks understanding of the worlds they operate in.

I found this difficult to watch. The main character spends a lot of the movie on a rant. You can’t help feeling harangued. The story and the central relationship were not credible.

Tedious. Confused. Cliched. Beautifully shot and great score.

Mildly entertaining. Cast includes some old stalwarts and a few attractive newcomers. Some good performances. Designed for mass appeal with great production values, salacious content, nudity and a cast designed to appeal to all demographics (but only to the extent a 2020 audience will allow). There ends the good stuff. For me there is something irksome about setting 1950's Hollywood to rights from the safe distance of 70 years away. It trivialises the struggles and achievements of that time and leaves me wondering what, for all its self-importance, Hollywood offers a modern audience in terms of progress. Two lesser gripes. Episode 9 is a dog's breakfast (did they intend to make 10 episodes and run out of cash?). To whomever made the false teeth for the Rock Hudson character - congratulations on turning one of the shows most endearing characters into the comic relief.

Great visuals. Patchy acting. Very disappointing adaption of the wonderful Asimov books. There are so many departures from the original, you may not recognise the story.

This is a film which contains some great material, in particular the early songs, but ultimately is hard to watch and like. The story essentially requires that you watch the main character make one terrible choice after another until he damages everyone around him and becomes completely unsympathetic. It’s an unsettling story. I could only watch about 30 minutes at a time. You have to ask, what is the point of putting the audience through this? I found the main performance a bit creepy somehow. Maybe because the actor is too old for the part. Maybe because of the plot. I haven’t seen the broadway show. Maybe it is better. Some of the music is definitely worth pursuing.
