Don’t watch it for a detective drama or a crime thriller. In that sense it’s poorly written and the climax is hardly there. But that doesn’t mean it won’t entertain you. One can be forgiven for thinking that the plot - a bunch of undercover cops under various guises staking out a Kathmandu neighbourhood trying to solve some murders - was an afterthought.
The film really shines through in the everyday antics of its protagonists, the casual banter and the humour of their quotidian interactions. The film has a refreshing lack of pretensions in the way the shots are framed. That kind of confidence is always reassuring.
The acting is good. Besides Saugat Malla whose versatility is unquestionably showcased in his role as an ordinary dark skinned policeman speaking his Nepali in what must be a madeshi accent- others like the widower landlord , his layabout son and his current love interest the wife of the film baddie, the locality vagrants , the delinquent college girl, Malla’s roommate etc are as convincing as they are entertaining.
The chase sequence in the end is slick though it doesn’t help redeem the ending from its complete lack of the suspense factor.
