I watched it because it has Kingsley and Curtin in it, but the film never found its footing. Did it want to be a comedy, a Sci-Fi, or a drama about life as a senior citizen?
I was hoping for a comedy, but the jokes were too few, too far apart, and unsurprising.
The storyline relied upon worn out tropes: an aging widower with the beginnings of dementia, two widows, and one worried daughter. An alien has crash landed in the yard of the old man.
Of course the alien has telekinetic powers, and needs dead cats to repair its spaceship. It seemed like there should have been some levity around needing the cats, but there was none. They simply gathered several dead cats which the alien magically transforms into a jewel that powers the spacecraft.
The older man's dementia serves no real purpose in developing the story, nor does the character of his worried daughter, or the reference to his estranged son.
Disappointing overall, especially with the cast.
