I know this goes against the grain but frankly my wife and I watched this movie last night, and throughly enjoyed it. But it's not a huge action film, nor traditional in many respects. Scott Brooks' (Duvall) issues with gays, while at the same time wanting to reconcile with his gay son, Ben (Franco); killing Ben's boyhood 'boyfriend' and then openly lying to his mother years later with Ben present, while also hiring a corrupt deputy sheriff to "put a contract" out on Samantha Payne (Luciana), the Texas Ranger. It's a film full of contradictions. I'm a lawyer myself and the scene in the lawyer's office with the family estate planning session was absolutely perfect. Scott trying to recognize his daughter by a former Mexican maid, where neither she nor her "brothers' had a clue about this, and her only being recognized by Scott and Ben, and the others being highly incensed, was totally realistic. People at that stage of life do things they've been trying to avoid for decades. And Luciana did a better acting job than people give her credit for; it's not a flashy part, but it shows throughness and dedication to duty. And thinking before you talk. She actually did that very well. It's a sleeper of a movie, but before you get tired of it, look for the nuances. There are a bunch.
