It's not just a brilliant historical novel. It's written so well that it becomes a truthful and honest report of actual events. Full of joy, loss, pain and deep emotional secrets. A realistic observation of life lived under tremendous stress by heroic individuals who weren't acknowledged at the time. Nor was the sacrifice they made ever really understood. I understand some of it now more than eighty years later. I'm full of emotion and proud of the way that many walked away without reward and kept the nation's secrets after victory had been achieved.
