Poor Things is a movie that tries too hard to be funny, shocking, and progressive, but ends up being nothing but a tedious and pretentious mess. Emma Stone plays Bella Baxter, a young woman who is brought back to life by a mad scientist (Willem Dafoe) and goes on a wild adventure across the continents with a slick lawyer (Mark Ruffalo). The movie is full of extreme behavior, bizarre costumes, and graphic nudity, but none of it adds anything meaningful or entertaining to the story. The movie is also riddled with plot holes, inconsistencies, and offensive stereotypes that undermine its supposed message of liberation and equality. Poor Things is a movie that will make you yawn, cringe, and roll your eyes more than laugh or think. It is a movie that deserves one star: the lowest possible rating.
