I ordered this book because my interest in Montserrat lies in my ancestry. My grandfather was born in the island in 1873. He came to the Uk and married my grandmother in 1900. I never knew him because he died in 1931. I was hoping for a well written book because Irene has a doctorate in social science. Sadly, although the book was interesting and brought back memories from when I visited the island in 1998, I found the writing laboured and lacking in grammar. I’m sure Irene is a lovely lady but I feel she could have made the book more interesting if she had grasped the reader.
