I think the telling of Selena’s story was great. I learned so much more about her. Casting however is where it fell flat for me. The stand outs for me were:
1) Gabriel Chavarria (A.B - Selena’s brother)
2) Jesse Posey (Chris - Selena’s husband)
3) Noemà González ( Suzette - Selena’s sister)
4) Ricardo Antonio Chavira (Abraham - Selena’s father)
Finally
5) Madison Taylor Baez (Young Selena)
They were it for me in terms of acting. Wardrobe was on point in terms of likeliness to real life wardrobe worn by Selena y Los Dino’s. Selena’s wigs were a mess until she went straight and black.
The lip sync was off, every time. I didn’t fall in love with Selena all over again watching Christian Serratos play her, not hate towards her. There was a disconnect.
This being said, none of it was in comparison to the movie. I just felt Selena was wrongly casted. She was also way to skinny, many girls looked up to Selena for her curves too.
Again, I loved the stories we didn’t get to hear previously, and the more in depth telling of her story.
That is my review, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. I would still recommend, just to learn new things if you’re a fan.
