This is definitely not a typical Will Ferrell / JLD comedy. It's slightly dark, and introspective on how the intersection of mid-life crisis, mourning the death of a parent, temptation, crisis, and complacency with your spouse can create havoc despite strength and perseverance from the spouse.
JLD displays her ability to pull off nuance in her character as always. Will Ferrell provides more feeling in this role then his normal characters. And Zach Woods provides the youthful perspective without the stereotypical "wild man" approach.
All around a much better film than I expected. But if you're looking for Ricky Bobby or Ron Burgundy, this isn't it.
