As good as the acting was, I struggled to take up the plot of series 4. No one was particularly likeable, which isn't a bad thing and probably quite understandable during the continuous night. The solving of the crimes goes nowhere for the first 5 episodes and it's mixed into the spiritual soup to confuse. The final episode crossed the threshold. Nothing was believable. The killing of Hank and the disposal of his body were dealt with in brutal sustain for any emotional attachment, the obligatory falling through the ice (3 times) and miraculous saving from the winter oxen at night were too much.

I didn't have the compelling desire to follow the plot on this one. With the film having rounded up a desirable cast of unpleasant characters encased in a gothic house, and a dead body to boot, it strayed across the comedic side too far without being outright funny. In this mixed genre the solution to the crime plays second fiddle to np th to get there.

No doubt an outstanding series. The scenery costumes and music all make for a solid piece. For e the performance of Lila was a major distraction. She seems wooden and unnatural, lacking responsiveness. Most of the other performances were creditable, with some being outstanding. The story so far is a twisting affair which isn’t easy to grasp where it’s going….but you know there’s trouble. I was horrified at the violence against woman and overall level of aggression in this culture. No wonder families were highly protective of their daughters!

It was a fantastic experience watching the events unfold from the soldiers' perspective. It felt close and involving your senses. Unfortunately the story itself was a disappointment. Just an action movie on a journey through hell, with the Germans being serious baddies again.
