Less than forty pages in and two glaring mistakes have sullied the book. Firstly, on page 25, he describes how Anson ordered a “red pendant”. This should be pennant. That’s dreadful proofreading at best.
And on page 31 he says that the black seaman “faced a threat that no white seaman did: if captured overseas, he might be sold into slavery”. Has the author never heard of the Barbary slave trade?
Disappointing.
