The goal of any communicative medium is to put forward a compelling narrative, one that informs, educates and in some way brings a change.
This film ticks all boxes. I understand the film has taken some creative liberties, one that may not cent percent accurately recreate the incident. It has in a layman's sense not failed in its portrayal and has captured the soul of a mother's love.
Many critics have called the film lacking in most departments especially the overall film treatment. The sentiment is understandable as perhaps, they wanted the film to succeed more than those praising it. To be more compelling and engaging.
Rani Mukherjee does an excellent job playing the role of Mrs Chatterjee. Could the film have been better?
Let's put it this way. This film I almost like the pleas of Mrs Chatterjee. Just like in real life she had to put up with a corrupt and do called child protective services in Norway. She had to fight her way through in ways that are considered illegal and dangerous. So does this film with its certain creative liberties in its scriptwriting and direction.
Does it work? It's up to the viewer. But on the aspect of communicating a message. It's loud and clear. After all who can forget the voice of a mother cry. Yes she does things her way. But who are we to judge afterall its between her and her child.
I'm giving it a five star because not many films talk about the real issues. Issues which talk about poverty, education system and in this case ( lightly hinted ) orchestrated and organized child abuse systems.
