This is a very good film - Barry is the star here and he clearly has a great on screen presence and ability to seduce his audience into full belief of his character.
For me, this film drew parallels with the talented Mr Ripley - that aristocratic/wealthy angle with the under privileged twisted adoration from a smart loner.
The acting generally was first class and the locations and cinematography is also excellent - I can't help thinking that the story could have been better and the ending almost felt rushed and slightly lost direction- there were a couple of shock scenes which I felt were a little out of context and perhaps more placed to give it a future cult status.
I love English films, they are always my preference - There were great comedy moments in this film as well, which balanced the viewing experience - slightly fantastical and a slight diversion from the real world being set in such a beautiful stately home (no criticism here)
The engineered relationship between Oliver and Felix is the central part of the film but after his demise I felt Olivers new goal for the ultimate prize was a little rushed and out of context with the initial script - however, it was worth the watch but I'd not rush to watch it again.
