This in such a refreshing read in some ways, platonic love, meetings of mind are given so little air time. The end is just very nihilistic and hopeless as if a positive narrative of this was too ambitious, it falls short of expressing the joy and safety of these relationships

The narrative voice is so toxic masculine it's like Piers Morgan crossed with bad porn. I know others could say that's the main character but it's constantly validated by the author. For example women are constantly held up against each other. Examples of female toxicity include being really attractive and getting along well with gay men ( who apparently can't see your faults but a very shallow straight man can?!), being a great attentive mother but married to a 41 year old (how she got all that money, quote unquote). Most heralded women in the book don't suffer these attractive or mothering types, far too shrewd for that. The rest was ok, but as a woman who is 40, not upset by attractive women or mothers I just found it gross and distracting from the storyline which was alright
